We’re already a month into the new year, the African summer sun beats down daily, work is in full swing and everywhere soccer fever is mounting... all’s well and running smoothly!

NH hosts South African buyers at EIBTM in Barcelona

EIBTM is the leading global event for the conference, incentives, events, business travel and meetings industry. The event focuses on European destinations and takes place annually in the vibrant business and tourist destination of Barcelona. Angela Jacobson, Sales and Marketing Manager for NH Hoteles South Africa, accompanied six Hosted buyers from South Africa to the most recent exhibition, which was held from 1-3 December 2009.
The three-day event offered Hosted buyers, trade visitors and exhibitors focused access to a dynamic business environment, thought-provoking professional education, and business networks. Despite the depressed global economic climate, the exhibition was very successful, with total attendance up by about 2% and the number of Hosted buyers increasing to 3 791 from the previous year. Feedback from the event has also been hugely positive, with many attendees reporting business gains from the show.
Plettenberg Bay
One more reason to love the Garden Route
In June 2009, NH Plettenberg Bay hosted a group of amateur detectives for a Murder Mystery Weekend. Mitchell’s Knysna Brewery was one of the sponsors, and a visit to this charming establishment will quickly reveal that’s it’s no mystery why our sleuths wanted to linger there...
The original Mitchell’s Knysna Brewery was established in 1983 by
Lex Mitchell in a small building in the town centre. In 1985, it moved to the Knysna Industrial Area, which afforded the brewery the space to expand and introduce Bosun’s Bitter as an alternative to their well-loved Forester’s Draught.
The brewery has since added various other ales to its repertoire – some on a special basis, and some that have come to stay, like Raven Stout and Ninety Shilling Ale. All Mitchell’s ales are unpasteurised, live ales, produced locally using the finest available ingredients and a carefully selected amalgam of British mashing and German lagering techniques to produce ales uniquely suited to South African conditions.
A guided visit will take you to the heart of the brewery, where you’ll learn a thing or two about the brewing of natural ales – from the Grist Hopper to the Mash Tun, from the Kettle to the Whirlpool – and get to experience the chill of the primary and secondary fermentation cellars, before moving on to taste the perfect product at the end of the line!
And as you drink deeply of these very fine ales, you’ll find yourself inadvertently contemplating again the many reasons for never wanting to leave this town which owes much of it fame to the brewery that carries its name – Mitchell's Knysna Brewery!

NH responds to Haiti Disaster
For the past two weeks the world has been looking in shock at images of the devastation wreaked by the Haitian earthquake. As the search for rescuers wind down, the desperate need of the survivors for medical care, food, water and shelter has galvanised the international community to come to their aid.
NH Hoteles has created an “Emergency Haiti” fund in collaboration with UNICEF, and has donated €20,000 to the fund. It has also pledged to donate another €3 for every euro donated by its employees and clients world-wide.

NH wins European Hotel Design Award
NH Hoteles has won the 2009 European Hotel Design Award in the “Best Design for a Standard Room” category in recognition for the design of its latest rooms.
The European Hotel Design Awards are widely recognised and highly valued in the hotel and lifestyle industry. The awards are organised by Sleeper Magazine (UK) in recognition of innovative and groundbreaking concepts and projects by architects, designers, developers and hotel chains. The concepts and projects are evaluated by an international panel of prominent journalists and hospitality experts.
Krasnapolsky revamp good to go
Renovations to the prestigious NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam are set to begin in late 2010.
All 478 rooms and public areas will be revamped, but the hotel will remain open throughout. The previously planned expansion of 150 rooms have been put on hold.
NH Hoteles is exploring different possibilities with the City of Amsterdam for giving the exterior of the Sint Janstraat district a new look.
